The first one, he was barely twenty. It was his very first team. He had this smile... carefree, almost naive. He still believed that the world could be saved with a good plan and good friends.
The second one, he was alone, on a mission in the jungle. That one scared me. He was tougher, more closed off. When he came back, he talked less, slept little... but he always braided my hair in the evening. It was his way of saying "I'm here."
The third one, he was clearing an area full of hostiles. He came back with a big scar and eyes that had seen too much. That day, I understood that he was carrying much more than his backpack.
And the last one, among the high-ranking officers, supervising mechas. He no longer fights, but he watches over. He says that if he held on until now, it's to see me grow up in peace. And that... that's worth all the battles in the world.
